Happy First Day of Turkey Season '24 in Va.....

    20240413_062831.jpg

Windy yesterday, breezy last night and windy already....does not lend well for a productive first morning. But the sunrise was beautiful....

Yes it was. Wife was geared up.to go with me, she has t been in probably 9-10 years. She woke up and didn't feel like it. Figured she wasn't missing anything with the way the wind had been and was blowing. And I typically don't have that much luck on opening day....I see it as a knock the cobwebs off and scouting event and hopefully encounter some birds. You never know with turkey hunting....

Thought I got this posted earlier today but I don't see it, so I'll go again.
Been super windy here lately but it was much nicer today and I found a cooperative bird first thing this morning. 20240424_060350.jpg 20240424_061344.jpg

It was there (on here) earlier cause I saw it. But shortly after something happened to the site, and it wasn't working. So evidently the internet gremlin ate your earlier post...

I have seen several this year but just from the pickup on the road & since it is frowned upon “Arkansas-ing “ them I haven’t bagged one.

The only turkey I ever got with a firearm was with a 22lr, dropped it on the spot & it never moved.

I shot one with a 30-06 once, dropped like a rock, I went to get it, damm thing jumped up took off running & flew off.

I did hit a full grown turkey with a pickup, looked someone threw a bowling ball thru my windshield where its arse hit. Perfect circle with feathers all around it, I bet that birds arse was sore for a while.

years ago in the 80's driving up I90 to La Crosse Wi had to come to a complete stop on freeway due to a very large flock of turkeys flying across road at windshield height. late Nov. deer season. They not as plentiful back then as now. Now days I have watch out for suicide deer and turkeys everytime I get in the truck. Never seem to find either when season is open though.

Clearly you need a wider shot pattern or need to choot faster
