My 10 foot length guy went up in price. I can’t blame him. I called around and found a grapple load. Haven’t dealt with this fella before but he is local, called right back and was honest about the wood he was bringing. IMG_3266.jpeg IMG_3267.jpeg He could have stacked it a little better but whatever. Oak, maple, beach a few ash and 1 birch. I gots some work to do.

I have found with experience that the best way stacked is directly on the ground. I had a load recently stacked on 4 cross members and it was a pinching pain in my arse... Sweet load!

I’d disagree on that one but our climates are very different. I’m gonna borrow a mini ex with a thumb from work over the winter to process. No pinch worries there.

This load was also Lodgepole and very straight. I cut 16" through the entire pile, then moved to the next 16". I also found on the cross members, the Lodgepole rolled around a lot more. This stuff was 6-12" in diameter x 16 feet which I'm sure made a difference

Yeah cutting on a pile you get pinched. Part of the deal. Extra saw and wedges help with that. I don’t think I’d ever try to cut through the pile tho. Everybody’s different.

Lay down some stringers and then roll the logs onto them. Keeps the logs off the ground and no pinching involved along with a bit less bending.

There were these. Probably just shape and how straight they are that you can get away with it.

That looks like some good cutting. No limbing or piling up brush.

Big saw with 6' bar. Cut them as they lay from top to bottom.

Go big or go home! Doesn't take many of those big dudes to produce a cord.
