Just mostly out of curiosity, but also to hopefully see some fun creative projects ya'll have done, how do you store your stash? Outside? Underground? How wrapped? Mistakes you've made? Tricks you've learned?
I try to store mine in the garage and basement. I can store up to 3 tons in the basement and now I can get 6-8 tons in the garage. Back in spring of 2016, during the "fire sales", when tons were going for $100 I got 11 tons. At the time my garage could only hold a couple of tons with the car and bike and snowblower - now days there is only the snowblower that has to be housed in there. I would have a "moving party", with me myself and I, and move the bags into the garage and basement by hand - a couple of tons at a time. I think my personal best was 4 tons one day. Lift them into a cart, pull the cart to the garage, then stack in the appropriate place. The left pile is 6 tons after covering with plastic but before wrapping with pallet wrap - those were long term storage outside. To the right is part of 4 tons that were moved into the garage/house about a month after delivery. You can see where one ton was already moved - hat is what I moved into the shed, and that is why the pallet is leaning against the big stack). TIP: Before doing the final wrap on the 6 tons, I place objects on top (partially deflated basketball and some pieces of PT) so that the water would shed and not pool in low points. Since the shed had holes in the roof where screws had come out, I also covered those with plastic
I start the season with three new tons, regardless of what else I might have left over from the previous year (usually a ton or less). The three tons are delivered in the spring and sit in the garage, in their factory wrap, where I run a dehumidifier, to keep them "fresh". I stack two tons on my front porch (open on three sides), the beginning of September, with two covers on each and the third ton, outside, on the side of the garage, with two covers and a tarp. I use what I have left from the previous year first, and then crack the newer three ton delivery. Usually, the left overs from the previous season last until mid-December, depending on weather and temps.
I had an old humidifier that I made the mistake of "upgrading" to a newer more modern one. The old one had gone through a school, a factory, an office, and then finally me. I could tell from the tags on it haha. It was an Emerson Quiet Kool 44pt Dehumidifier. Never broke, never had an issue other than it's look. New one has gone kaput a few times... I regret not keeping it...
7 x 7 resin storage shed , I can get 3 ton in it. placed right outside my back door behind my house so it's a short lug with the bags. To load the shed I can drive right up to it with the trailer and unload.
