Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate a helper but I do rather enjoy alone time in the woods with saws and a fiskars
I straddle the fence on this one. I like having a helper cuz of the safety factor and it seems like two of us get 4 times as much work done as just me alone. Not sure if that's because I stop and admire my work and the surroundings or what??? On the other hand I very much enjoy being out in the woods by myself and not being on anyone else's timeclock... I'm at peace in the woods, calming and relaxing while getting stuff done. A sense of accomplishment is high on my value list.
well, found the limit of my dump trailer today! not actually the dump limit, but the limit of what my truck can pull the trailer out from under! this used to be my chip driveway that I used to keep trucks from getting stuck, re-chipping the driveway since these had turned to mush, well, more like dirt! 7 yards fills my trailer perfectly even with the sides, I had probably 11 if I had to guess, packed in with the trackhoe to make room too!
I usually don’t have pictures like this for some reason. Here’s a couple of the same load. Cut and split on site instead of bringing home in 10 - 12’ lengths to process here. More of the fir scrounge. I don’t normally stack but I need maximum capacity since I will not be able to do much wood for the next few years. Hopefully about 24 cord when stacked to the rafters. Owl
Yep, I found out the hard way that dump trailers REMOVE weight from your drive tires when they dump, making it very difficult to pull ahead. The only good way to do it is to pull ahead as it is dumping. Been stuck more than once like that.
I was in 4 low in hopes the front tires would help pull, nah, spun all 4, the truck is a manual, so standard practice is to just use the parking brake, usually the trailer pushes through that and the truck rolls forwards as the load slides out, but this stuff was so wet and sticky that only maybe a yard slid out of the box, so my normal method didn't work ended up having to get in the excavator and dig out probably 6 yards to lighten it up so I could pull forward and dump a new pile, and move the pile, pretty much defeated the point of even using the trailer but I had to make room to move stuff
Must be the picture cause they sure look a lot longer. Came back to edit, don't even say it buZZsaw BRAD . Lol
